Moise “Constantly Violates Constitution,” says Haiti Deputy
Twenty opposition politicians are raising the stakes in their drive to impeach Haitian President Jovenel Moise by demanding documents that they say will prove he has routinely violated the constitution.
The legislators believe the 33 documents, which were formally requested Aug. 7, contain evidence of illegal contracts, misuse of government funds and the appointment of ineligible and corrupt officials. Continue reading
Low mobilization of opposition activists in Port-au-Prince
Less than 50 opposition activists had accompanied Pitit Dessalines’ leader, Moses Jean Charles, to the meeting in front of the U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince Wednesday.
Jean Charles delivered his message alone in front of the U.S. diplomatic representation, calling once more for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse. He attended the demonstration despite the weak mobilization of the militants.
More than a hundred demonstrators joined other groups in the beginning while the other leaders of the opposition shone by their absence in this march which aimed to protest against the support of the U.S. administration to Moïse. Continue reading
Franco-Haitian Cooperation Intensifies
Financial and technical assistance from France through the French Development Agency (AFD) will continue in Haiti despite the political instability in recent months.
On July 30, the heads of Agence Française de Développement and the Haitian organization ITEKA initiated the first financing agreement “Responses to Risks for Sustainable Development (R2D2)” in the amount of 1.5 million euros ($1.6 billion USD). The grant aims at strengthening national and local actors in the consideration of risks and the reinforcement of their capacities of prevention, preparation and response to natural disasters. Complaint lodged against Senator Garcia Delva for complicity with a gang leader
Citizens plan to file a complaint against Senator Garcia Delva for his involvement with a gang leader in Haiti. The citizens feel that Delva feeds the gangs with weapons and ammunition to kill the children of the people and create insecurity across the country.
Jovenel Moïse could also be targeted in this complaint, according to Michel André.
“It is unacceptable that state-level leaders use citizens’ taxes to fund bandits in order to massacre the population,” he said. Continue reading
Three tremors felt at Fond-Verrettes
The earth trembled at least three times in Fond-Verrettes on Tuesday evening. According to the communal committee of the Civil Protection (CCPC) of the commune, the first shock was recorded at 8 P.M., the second after 11 P.M. and the third at 2:00 A.M. early Wednesday.
No damage has been reported according to the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) which is awaiting details of the technical report of the Office of the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister responsible for Energy Security (BMSE). Continue reading
