Flags will be flying on May 18, as Haitian Flag Day celebrates the day that the first purely Haitian Flag was adopted back on May 18, 1803. Flag Day is the highlight of Heritage Month, which is celebrated all throughout May. Here’s where you can take part in the festivities throughout the country:
In Miami, there is the 21st Annual Haitian Compas Festival by Noel and Cecibon Productions. The four-day event is packed with VIP parties and a musical lineup of more than 25 performances by Djs and musicians. This event is one not to be missed.
In Orlando, there is the Haitian Flag Day Festival, which will be a day packed with food, music, culture and all-around celebrations. The Festival will celebrate the history and culture of the Haitian people in style.
In Los Angeles, CLAN Media Group is hosting Strength in Unity: A Haitian Flag Day Celebration. The event will feature young artists and performers of Haitian descent. It will be a night of celebration, showcasing the Haitian culture to the City of Angels.
The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in New York City will be at the Life of Hope Center in Brooklyn on May 18, where Haitian history, music, performances, art and food will be on display.
The family-friendly event will have a fair from noon to 5 p.m. and a showcase from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 710 East 37th St.
