Latest New York Court Decision Adds Layer Of Protection For Haitian Immigrants Against Deportation

Last week, the New York State Office of Court Administration (NYS OCA) issued a directive limiting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers from showing up to courthouses unannounced and without a warrant giving Haitian immigrants who are confronting citizenship or other legal woes a third form of protection from deportations. Alterpresse reports that the PetroCaribe Plaintiffs’ lawyers gave an ultimatum of 22 days to investigating magistrate Ramoncite Accimé, to bring justice to those suspected of involvement in the squandering of PetroCaribe funds.

On its 40th Anniversary Haiti’s National Credit Bank Launch Mobile Bank

Le Nouvelliste reports that to mark its 40th anniversary the National Credit Bank intends to launch a mobile bank, which will be piloted in the south region before it is rolled out nationally.

The mobile bank will offer its services on market days in the communes where it will stay for exactly one day, transactions can be done safely, said the bank’s Director of Business Development, Lionel Guillaume. Continue reading

Haitian Gov. Investigation Forced Port Lafito to Close Temporarily

Haitian government officials have closed one of the largest shipping ports in the country following an ongoing investigation of the port’s practices.
According to judicial authorities they found 16 containers loaded with automatic weapons and ammunition ate Port Lafito. Port-au-Prince government commissioner, Paul Eronce Villard said he was following some tracks that could confirm this information.
