US Congress Members Called for Investigation on Corruption and Violence in Haiti

Alterpresse reports that 104 members of the United States Congress want an investigation on corruption and human rights violations during recent demonstrations in Haiti. They made this request through a letter to US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
They recommended that the State Department supports the accountability efforts in the PetroCaribe case and found it important to invite the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to investigate on the acts of political violence and massacres perpetrated in La Saline. Continue reading

Bocchit Edmond Denies Accusations he went to Qatar to Repurchase of PetroCaribe’s Debt

Radio Television Caraibes reports that Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bocchit Edmond denies all accusations circulating on social medua saying that his visit to Qatar was made for the repurchase of Petrocaribe’s debt by a Qatari financial institution.
“We didn’t go to Qatar to negotiate the purchase of the Petrocaribe debt, we went to present the different potentialities of Haiti in terms of foreign investment. As a matter of fact, an organization called “qatar foundation for development” could put at Haiti’s disposal a guarantee fund valued at 100 million US dollars”, Edmond said. Continue reading

Association of Industries of Haiti Publishes Note Following Minimum Wage

The Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), is asking the senate to consult with the Higher Council of Wages as well as all the sectors concerned, before taking any decisions after the chamber of deputies approved an increase in the minimum wage.

Foreigner Shot Dead in Saint Marc Robbery

Felipe Joel Fernandez, originally a South African from South Africa and a US resident was shot dead by unknown assailants. Fernandez unidentified went to the bank to make a transaction to finalize the construction of a school project he was managing when two people riding a motorcycle and another one in a vehicle parked on the national highway #1, shot Fernandez. Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Book Fair, in partnership with Sosyete Koukouy of Miami, Inc., presents the Little Haiti Book Festival, a vibrant cultural experience that introduces and promotes writers, booksellers and performers from the island nation. This event will take place on Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex and the adjacent Libreri Mapou in Miami, in great part due to the generosity of the Green Family Foundation.
