Delfine Kernizan

NEW YORK — HaitiNex Media Group today announced Delfine Kernizan beauty and style editor of the Haitian Times. Kernizan will report to publisher and editor in chief Vania Andre, and will be responsible for driving the editorial strategy for the Beauty & Style section.

“We are extremely excited to have Delfine join our team and assist with elevating the Haitian Times to new heights,” said Andre. “The Haitian community is a colorful one with no shortage of creatives who have chosen a variety of ways to manifest their creations through style.

“Delfine brings to the role an expertise in style, marketing and journalism. I’m confident in her ability to maximize editorial and business opportunities that are more than abundant in the style community.”

Kernizan, a Haitian American born and raised in Queens, NY, has more than eight years experience in digital content production, public relations, marketing and event production, and currently works as a business and marketing consultant. As a consultant, she works with fashion and beauty brands to assist them with brand development and content creation that’s aimed at helping everyday women master “effortless and affordable style.”

In 2013, she founded Castle Black, an online clothing boutique inspired by the strength, eloquence and sophistication of the Haitian influences she was surrounded by her throughout her childhood, as well as New York City lifestyle and Brooklyn/Queens street-style. In 2019, Castle Black expanded to include CUSTOM by Coco, a line of custom clothing pieces designed and made by Kernizan.

Kernizan also has a blog and YouTube channel called the The Coco Gawdess, where she publishes content on dating, culture and fashion.

In her role as beauty and style editor, Kernizan will also be tasked with developing strategic partnerships between existing and up-and-coming beauty brands and the Haitian Times.

“Haiti and its descendants have been influencing and impacting art on a global level for centuries. Today, there are so many creatives of Haitian descent making their mark and carving a space in beauty and style, through makeup, hair care, design, styling, modeling, blogging, etc.,” she said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to tell these artists’ stories, while introducing them to their community and supporting our people in creative spaces, specifically in the beauty and fashion industries.

“As we begin to diversify the content featured in the Haitian Times, I am excited to use my expertise in marketing and digital content creation to bring these stories to life and to create a community connected through Beauty & Style.”
