Academician and writer Dany Laferrière is the guest of honor at the 25th edition of Livres en folie to be held on June 20. Laferrière is the first writer to have been asked twice to be a guest of honor at this book fair. Haitian Pastor Arrested at Airport with a Large Amount of Cash

A pastor was arrested by agents of the Haitian National Police on Wednesday at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, in possession of USD$95,000. The pastor, Estiverne Jean-Charles,was en route to the United States with the money hidden in gift wrap. When asked about the source of the money, the pastor stated that “ i am a pastor and i can travel with that much money “. Haitian Newspaper, Le Nouvelliste, Denies Accusations of Michel Martelly

Alterpresse reports that the Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste has denounced the defamatory statements of former President Michel Martelly against them. In an interview given to a journalist while participating in the carnival in Les Cayes, Martelly said that Le Nouvelliste allegedly haggled his editorial line with his former administration.
“Mr. Michel Martelly has clearly defamed Le Nouvelliste several times. Le Nouvelliste never sold, never bargained or negotiated its editorial line with Mr. Martelly. Le Nouvelliste reserves the right to bring a lawsuit to summon Martelly to produce evidence of his accusations of blackmail attempts, payments and copies of the articles sponsored by him or institutions at his orders” the newspaper stated.
