Amnesty International Asks the Haitian Authorities to Respect Human Rights
Alterpresse reports that the International human rights organization, Amnesty International, called on the Haitian authorities to protect the protesters’ right to life and to address the underlying causes of the country’s crisis, which has caused paralysis in the country during the past 10 days.
“The Haitian authorities must ensure that citizens can peacefully protest and guarantee the life of those who choose to demonstrate,” says Erika Guevara-Rosas, Americas Director of Amnesty International. Continue reading
Religions for Peace Declines President Jovenel Moise’s invitation to Mediate Crisis
Le Nouvelliste reports that the Presidency has formally invited Religions for Peace to mediate in the political dialogue to find a solution to the crisis. Following a meeting on Monday in the private residence of the President, the organization declined the invitation.
Religions for Peace made this decision after consulting the various branches of the ecumenical organization. The atmosphere at the moment does not allow it to play the role of mediator in the crisis. Continue reading
Hervé Denis, New Representative of Haiti in Washington
