Former General Director of Haitian National Police, Godson Orelus is detained in St.Marc’s Civil Prison

Former Director General of the National Police of Haiti was placed in custody in Saint-Marc by the investigating judge in charge of the case of the seizure of weapons in 2016. Godson Orelus appeared for the first time on November 20, 2017 on this issue. For the second time, Judge Lumérant would have concluded that the former head of the Haitian police would be
linked to the illegal importation of firearms. This cargo of arms was seized in 2016 at the customs of Saint-Marc and two people were arrested in the United States for the same case. Continue reading

3 people killed in a shooting in Carrefour-feuilles, Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Three people were killed Thursday evening in the evening at Carrefour-feuilles, a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, during a shooting near Place Jeremie. The attackers who were riding in a motorcycle fled after their crime. Two young men in their thirties were killed instantly. The third victim is a shopkeeper in the area who died shortly after being rushed to the hospital. According to testimonies collected from several residents of Place Jérémie, it would be a settlement of accounts between rival gangs. Continue reading

Accreditation of faculties of medicine by 2023 in Haiti

On February 23, 2018, the Faculty of Medicine launched a process to meet the accreditation requirements of the World Federation of Medical Education. This measure follows the decision of the commission “The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)” to no longer recognize doctors from a Haitian faculty if the latter is not accredited from 2023.
