Guy Delva, the minister of communication and culture, announced today on Twitter that he will be resigning in the next few hours.
“The president has an extraordinary vision for this country and it is a great pleasure for me to have had the opportunity to work with him,” Delva posted. “However, I regret to announce that I will be resigning in the next few hours.”
The announcement comes in the wake of several violent protests that took place over the weekend in Port-ai-Prince over rising fuel prices. The decision to increase gas prices has since been suspended. However, the political fall out remains to be seen. Since Saturday, there’ve been calls for the prime minister, Jack Guy Lafontant, and President Jovenel Moise to resign.
In his post as minister of communication and culture, Delva was responsible for the development of Haiti through the influence of its culture and using this information to facilitate effective and efficient communication for better performance of the public service. He has held the post since April 25, 2018.
Stay tuned for developments.
