Marguerite Baptichon, known as “Madame Fada”, Dies at 102

Marguerite Helen Leandre Baptichon.

Marguerite Helen Leandre Baptichon, known to many as “Madame Fada” and matriarch to hundreds, passed away on March 12, 2018, at the blessed age of 102 years and 11 months.

A native of Petit-Goave, Haiti, Marguerite raised her 6 vibrant children with her husband, Fadael Baptichon, while there until an opportunity to provide a life for her family in America steered her towards New York, NY in 1973.

Leaving her husband behind to facilitate the lands and brewery they owned in Haiti, she, along with her children, lived in Manhattan for years before moving to Queens. She made a living for herself, supplemented by the endless support of her sons and daughter, as the community’s baby-sitter for over 30 years.

In that time she was also a dedicated member of the church, most notably Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Jamaica Queens and most recently Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Springfield Gardens.

After 2008 she became a humble servant of the church where she served as Eucharistic Minister for her parish community. Marguerite was truly loved by all, including her 38 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. When she was around, no mouth remained unfed and no heart unfilled. She was a blessing in all of our lives.

Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Fadael, who died in 1981 after 35 years of marriage, and one of her eldest sons Fanis, who died in 1979.

She will be missed by:

Her 5 children: Gerald Baptichon, Marie Baptichon, Charles Baptichon, Michel Baptichon, and Dufort Baptichon;

Her 18 grandchildren: Gerald’s bloodline (Rotchild Baptichon, Magdala Normil, Fadael Baptichon), Marie’s bloodline (Nadege Riche, Daphne Riche and Phadie Riche), Fanis’ bloodline (Fanes Emmanuel Baptichon), Charles’ bloodline (Gregory Baptichon, Jimmy Baptichon, Jayson Baptichon, Clarissa Jefferson, and Ciera Baptichon), Michel’s bloodline (Michelot Baptichon, Jeffrey Baptichon, Wendy Baptichon and Michelesse Baptichon), Dufort’s bloodline (Nasser Batichon and Cassandra Batichon);

Her 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild
