On Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Haitian community rallied in the heart of Times Square to denounce comments made by President Donald Trump in a closed-door meeting, where he allegedly referred to the African continent, El Salvador, and Haiti as “shitholes.”
The comment caused outrage not only in the Haitian, African and Hispanic community, but also worldwide. Leaders from across the globe have condemned the comments as “racist” and inflammatory.
Trump has since denied the language used, but not the sentiment, consequently inspiring Haitian community leaders to organize and take to the polls in November to unseat like-minded representatives.
