Haiti, Dominican Republic discuss border interference and roaming
Telecommunication regulators from Haiti and the Dominican Republic have agreed to work together to seek solutions to signal interference and mobile roaming issues in border regions. In a statement issued by Dominican watchdog Indotel following a meeting with Haitian counterpart Conatel, the regulators said they discussed the problem of users affected by surcharges in border provinces due to erroneously activated roaming.
“We all know that this problem is linked to power emissions, but there are technical mechanisms available which we acknowledge ought to be activated,” said Conatel director Jean David Rodney.
The regulators also discussed a Haitian proposal to eliminate roaming and agreed to hold another meeting in November. The two countries coexist on the island of Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean.
