Following Miss Haiti 2016’s near win for the Miss Universe crown, Haitian dignitaries, elected officials and public in general have been swooning for an opportunity to engage the Miss Universe pageant runner up.
In a series of outings these past few days, Miss Haiti 2016, Raquel Pelissier, was presented with honors by two New York legislators. On Feb. 14 Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages, presented Pelissier with a citation during a welcome meet and greet reception at the New York Haitian Consulate.
She showed the “world the perseverance, grace and beauty of our people,” Solages said.

Just two days later, City Council Member Mathieu Eugene presented the beauty queen with a proclamation at City Hall.
“We are so honored to welcome Raquel Pelissier to New York City, where we can come together as a community and celebrate her wonderful achievements on behalf of the Haitian people,” said Eugene.
Pelissier, a survivor of the 2010 earthquake, cited her experience during the devastation as her inspiration to pursue her dreams. She is currently studying to be an optometrist, and was recently named a goodwill ambassador by Haiti President Jovenel Moise.
