World Food Program to launch an emergency operation in Haiti
The United Nations World Food Program plans on assisting 1.6 million people affected by droughts in Guatemala, Honduras,El Salvador and Haiti. Executive Director Ertharin Cousin will travel to Haiti where she will meet with communities affected by El Niño. More than 3 million people in Haiti are facing food insecurity due to the effect of El Niño.
Haiti needs time to organize elections, OAS says
“We must allow time for Haitians to organize elections,” Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), said during a meeting at the meeting of the Inter American Press Association on Sunday . “It is very important to have a solution soon in Haiti, but we should not hurry to make these choices. Wwe must not be pressed to hold elections and avoid the mistakes of the past.”
