Haiti president names second choice for prime minister

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Enex Jean-Charles, an experienced lawyer and presidential adviser, has been tapped for prime minister by interim President Jocelerme Privert. His nomination came after several meetings between  Privert and parliamentarians on Tuesday.

Jean-Charles has served as an adviser to former presidents, Boniface Alexandre, Rene Preval and Michel Martelly.

$8 million to improve agricultural productivity

The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) approved a grant of $8 million to support the efforts of the government of Haiti to enhance agricultural productivity in the Northwest Department.

The grant will allow for the development of infrastructure and services to improve agricultural productivity in the identified communities. Particular focus will be placed on improving access to water for agriculture and efficient irrigation systems. Communities will be engaged at all stages of the project cycle to ensure the sustainability of interventions.
