Organizations request financial audits from Martelly administration

A group of trade union and student organizations held a protest outside the offices of the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes last week, requesting audits on officials of former President Michel Martelly’s administration.

They accuse the former president, his wife Sophia Martelly, oldest son Olivier Martelly and other public officials of using public funds “to build their personal wealth.”

 U.S. official expresses concern over zika’s possible impact in Haiti

(AFP) – A top US health official expressed “extreme concern” Friday over the potential for Zika to expand throughout Haiti and said the United States is helping the deeply impoverished Caribbean nation prepare.

There was “extreme concern of Haiti in terms of impact that dengue has there, and of course, the vulnerable population is a challenge,” said Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the US Centers for Disease Control.
