English in Mind Institute (EIM) is a nonprofit based in Port-au-Prince that offers adult English-language programs. The nonprofit is “Haitian led, Haitian taught, and Haitian administered operation.”
EIM offers biweekly classes to over 190 students and follow a Cambridge University English syllabus complete with internationally recognized exams. To help raise funds for their most recent project, building a school, EIM is hosting a Kanaval-themed pool party on July 22.
Haitian Times chatted with Stephanie Price, the organization’s international director.
What can attendees expect at the English in Mind Institute (EIM) Kanaval Pool Party?
Fun! It’s going to be an amazing poolside event with great food, drinks and music. Not to mention performances by the Brooklyn Peaches synchronized swimmers as well as Kriye Bode – a Haitian dance troupe here in the city.
When and where is the Kanaval Pool Party?
The Kanaval Pool Party will be held on Wednesday July 22 from 6-9 p.m. at the McCarren Hotel & Pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Where will the proceeds go?
All proceeds will benefit the English in Mind Institute (EIM) in Port-au-Prince Haiti and help them stop renting and build their very own school.
How has EIM helped students in Haiti? What are some of their accomplishments?
EIM is one of the only nonprofit adult English schools in Port-au-Prince. Beyond offering classes, EIM also offers vocational training and job placement. In the last year alone, 23 EIM students have secured new employment as a result of their English skills in the fields of education, tourism and the non-profit sector in Haiti.
