What is the Blue and Yellow Soiree?
The Blue and Yellow Soiree is the latest installment in a series of color-themed fundraisers started by the founders of Les Couleurs (www.lescouleursnyc.org), a 501c3 non-profit arts organization serving underprivileged children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In the spirit of collaboration, Les Couleurs Executive Director Aura Copeland reached out to Konbit Mizik (www.konbitmizik.org), a 501c3 non-profit music and community-based organization also in Port-au-Prince, to co-host this event due to our similarity in mission in Haiti and our collective potential to strengthen and build bridges among New York City’s young philanthropists.
When and where is the Blue and Yellow Soiree?
It will take place at Bar D’Eau on the rooftop of the Trump Soho at 246 Spring Street in New York City on Wed. June 24th from 7:30-11:30pm.
How will the money be used?
100% of the proceeds that Konbit Mizik raises will go to music and arts programs in collaboration with Les Couleurs and another partner organization of ours called Haitian American Caucus (www.hacus.org) which sponsors a school in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. These programs provide immense joy and freedom to children who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to paint, sing into a microphone, rap, dance, play and other essential activities that most of us all took for granted growing up. Konbit Mizik’s fundraising goal is $1500 which will provide for 10 children’s programs ($150 US each) which include our volunteers’ meals and transportation, generator, and art supplies.
What else would you like to share about Konbit Mizik?
Konbit Mizik aspires to contribute to the ascent of Haiti by using music to engage youth in grassroots organizing, community service, education and development. We accomplish our mission by breaking it into 3 parts: 1) to provide free production, video, and career management services to local, underground musical artists in Haiti, 2) to provide educational and vocational training workshops and lectures on professional skills, life skills, music, and academics, and 3) to mobilize communities throughout Haiti with collective action to address local problems and uplift those least fortunate.
