Even after more than four decades, Tropicana remains a high-energy Konpa band that is well known for their ability to draw big crowds and put on great shows. But their last show of 2008 at the Ritz Kinam II in Petion Ville was something very special. The band offered a blend of new and modern Konpa music of their rich repertoire, performed by some of the most talented musicians. They band has a fresh appeal to their audience, a twist to their songs and an always exciting performance. On the other part, If Raymond Cajuste feels his age, he wasn’t showing it at the Kinam BAL; even between songs, he stalked the stage and jittered with energy, with gestures that were both balletic and Latin-spiced. Bossa Combo and Tropicana are still kicking hard. Their music still revolves around the crunch and twang of great rhythm guitar and solid vocals.
