When you get a little crick in your neck, soreness in your back or pain in your feet what’s the first thing that comes to mind? A massage! You think about how great it would be to have someone rub your feet or your shoulders. If you’re lucky you have someone who’ll do it for you or you just do it yourself. It feels great, right?

Imagine how good that would feel all over your body…from someone who knows how to work magic with their fingers. I’m not saying your Pookie doesn’t know how to give a good massage. I’m just saying a professional massage therapist could do wonders for not only your body but also your mind.

If you have pain in your body, especially in your back, neck or legs, a massage can make you feel like a whole new person. Massage therapy has been known to relieve pain by increasing circulation and relaxing tense muscle. Ailments including arthritis, sprains and muscle atrophy have been known to be soothed with massage therapy.

Massages are also great for your mind. If you feel stressed or have trouble sleeping, getting a massage might be just the thing you need to put yourself at ease or too sleep. Even if you have writer’s block or a great deal of anxiety, an aromatherapy massage can help relax and open your mind.

I know many of you are probably thinking, “a massage therapist will do damage to my wallet”, but that’s not necessarily the case. There are many places where you can get affordable massages.

Many malls have 20 minute massages for as little as $10. That’s less than a dinner at most restaurants, and the effects will last longer and are probably better for you. There are also massage chains that offer massages at lower prices than high end spas. You can also lower the overall cost by getting a package of massages or going with friends for a volume discount.

There are several different types of massage that benefit the body in several different ways. The most common massage is a Swedish massage, which is great for relaxation. Aromatherapy massages are great for relaxing or energizing your mind. Deep tissue and hot stone massages help ease muscle tightness. Shiatsu and Thai massages help to balance the energies in your body.

Whatever your ailment, there is a massage therapy out there that will help. Talk to a doctor or a massage therapist about the different types of massages to find out which ones will benefit you most.

But if you can’t get yourself to a massage therapist, you can always ask your Pookie to rub your feet.

Until next time, Cheers to a better you
