The Haitian Ministry of Culture has purchased two cinemas, Rex Theater and Cine Triomphe. The move to acquire the cinemas aims to save the two most popular entertainment places in the country, and that the government has taken the decision in the interest of films and theater plays. Actors and filmmakers were given the task of pressuring the authorities to save the theaters that were closed down because of lack of resources and activities. Bids were invited from the owners wishing to sell them when the government announced its decision to acquire them. Rex Theatre, which is one of the city’s landmarks, and Triomphe will be renamed Centre Culturel du Champs-de-Mars.
