Carnival season has begun in Haiti, and revelers celebrated the beginning of the season over the weekend in Petit-Goave. Thousands of people rattled cowbells, and marched in parades to kick off festivities that will stretch to Jacmel and Port-au-Prince during the next two weeks. But many of the revelers in Petit-Goave were undeterred, complementing their colorful costumes with traditional masks, and marching bands promoting “Dous Makos”. In a new effort to promote local tourism, the second annual Dous Makos Carnival represents both fun and business for the city.
