The city of Nanterre in France, voted last week to rename one of the main boulevard after Aime Cesaire, according to sources at the Mayor’s office. The city requested the boulevard renaming the street after the great Antillean poet and author. Mayor Patrick Larry said last week people still remember Cesaire and his regular visits to the city. Community leaders told Showbiz that since his work is staple literature and he had a strong bond with the community, he was the right kind of candidate for street naming. They said Cesaire lived mainly in Martinique, but intermittently stayed at his apartment in Paris and Nanterre until his death last year. The official ceremony is set to take place on April 17, 2009 with a variety of cultural activities throughout the city.
